Blind Ants
Igor Legarreta
Igor Legarreta directs his third feature film, based on the acclaimed novel Las ciegas hormigas by Ramiro Pinilla, recipient of the Nadal Prize and the Critics’ Prize. Goya Award winner Urko Olazabal (Maixabel) and Itziar Ituño (Money Heist) lead this ambitious production filmed in Basque. Set against some of Bizkaia’s most epic natural landscapes, Legarreta crafts a rural western that portrays the end of an era through the struggles of a humble family. From a deeply local story, the film touches one of the most universal human themes: the instinct to survive.
Synopsis
Bizkaia, 1935. A violent storm runs an English coal ship aground. Overnight, the people of Algorta crowd the shore to claim the black gold. Sabas Jauregui sees it as a stroke of luck; his wife, Josefa, as a bad omen. Disregarding her pleas, Sabas drags their children into the heart of the storm. The family will do the unthinkable to protect the coal that might save them from winter—or doom them forever.
