Breakwaters
Playwright: Paul Verrept, translation by Ronald Brouwer, directed by Jose María Esbec
Sinopsis
A man and a woman live in a house by the beach. They are in love, well-off, and enjoy a beautiful and pleasant environment. When the sea washes up the lifeless bodies of refugees, adults and a child, each reacts differently and their relationship falls apart. The silence they once enjoyed becomes an abyss of misunderstanding.
The first part, High Tide (Pleamar) , reflects the story as told by the woman. The second, The Escape (La Huida), is the man’s testimony. The combined title of this diptych is Breakwaters (Rompientes).
