The Great Arch
Stéphane Demoustier
From the producers of Sentimental Value and The Marching Band comes the new feature film by Stéphane Demoustier (The Girl with a Bracelet, Borgo), winner of the 2026 César Awards for Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects. Presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the film also marks the return of Xavier Dolan to acting in a powerful story set in the world of 20th-century architecture.
Synopsis
1983. The new French government launches the largest architectural competition in the country’s history. Coveted by major firms, the winner is — against all odds — a complete unknown: Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, a Danish architecture professor whose only built works are his own house and three small chapels. Suddenly, he finds himself leading a monumental project: the construction of the Grande Arche of La Défense in Paris. While “Spreck” is determined to realize his vision exactly as imagined, he soon collides with political games and the complex realities of power.
